L’Oreal Paris have excelled themselves again and released a 2014 collection of four Pure Reds following their six barely nude lipsticks from last year. My obsession lately is definitely red lips for the festive season. I always lean towards a YSL lipstick for the statement red lips. But when the pure reds collection was launched a couple of months a go I did my research and after seeing so many positive reviews I knew I had to get involved. In both collections they feature warm and cool tones to fit each skin tone.
Of the four I thought Blake’s Red seemed the (obvious) perfect choice. Her skin tone is quite similar to mine, the custom made shades have been tailored to the spoke models so I just knew Blake’s should be a great choice to start with. Within the first glide the lipstick seemed really rich and moisturizing which I wasn’t expecting for a matte lipstick. I tend to find matte lipsticks really dry and kind of flaky. This lipstick has a hydrating texture I find blends in beautifully – not too glossy or matte.
A must for me has to be durability. These two lipsticks I find are great for those long days out, I had food and drink all day and the lipstick(s) were still slightly on. Especially the Pure Red – even after most of its faded, it leaves a gorgeous tone to my lips.
I aimed for just buying the one lipstick but you know, you cant really resist the 3 for 2 offer can you? If I had my way I would of loved to of bought the full collection but some were sold out (which is a whisper of heaven to my bank balance). So after contemplating for half an hour I ended up picking Julianne’s Barely Peach. Like the red, the texture felt exactly the same. However I needed to glide a lot more on my lips to get the shade to really fit to my lips. It ended up being a really light soft pink – very subtle for those natural makeup days.
I love the look of this collection. The packaging is really luxurious even with the brand imprint on the stick itself. All around two great lipsticks and L’Oreal’s collection definitely compliments all skin tones – its great that they have matched their shades to celebrities skin tones. What better way to pick your perfect match?
In the UK launch there are four shades – Julianne’s Red, Blake’s Red, Eva’s Red and Liya’s Red. Retails at £7.99.
