It’s Christmas Eve, and what better way to get in the festive mood than with my top lipstick picks to wear over the season!
Now I know when you think of Christmas lipsticks, it has to be a stunning red! But I’ve also picked a couple of alternative shades for people who don’t like red or fancy trying something different.
I mean personally I wear red lipstick all year round depending on my outfit but this time of year, a deep red really does perfect your outfit. I’m wearing gold and black for my festive outfits mainly so I think a red does compliment it really well.
However, a bright pink or a deep purple can also look amazing this time of year! You know on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and NYE everyone likes to wear their ‘glad rags’ in other words dress to impress! So here I’ve picked 8 lipstick shades that will suit everyone and hopefully it will make you fall in love with a red lipstick or alternatives you can wear!
I’ve also included different finishes as well if people prefer cream to matte or sheer to glossy. So if you are after THE perfect red, my absolute favourite has to be Mac Russian Red. It’s an absolutely stunning lip that’s matte and stays put for hours, its my go-to deep red and never lets me down. If you still love red and prefer a more pinky red then Urban Decay’s 714 is a good choice. It’s a cream finish so like matte, this is less drying and more moisturising. This is probably the best finish to wear in the colder months that feels matte but more nourishing, as you can see its very similar to Russian Red but has more fuchsia tones as well. Basically if you don’t want a dramatic red lip that’s your best pick.
If you prefer a more pastel red then Charlotte Tilbury’s Lost Cherry is your best bet. This is another matte finish but feels more like cream. This red can be worn all year round due to the soft pink tones to it, it is really similar to 714. Keeping with a red lip, if you don’t like matte and prefer something more shiny and glossy, then Lancome’s Indécise shade is the one for you. This has a sheer finish so even though it looks a bright red in the bullet, on the swatch you can see its more subtle and you only need a little application to have the shiny effect. This is more sticky than the others but if you wear a lip liner, this looks lovely on top for a nice finish.
When I say bright pinks, I don’t mean the ones you wear in summer (even though you can) I mean the ones that you feel adventurous to wear this time of year! So my two faves to wear this festive season are Urban Decay’s Firebird and Mac’s Girl about town. Again, these are both matte but as you can see Firebirds such a dramatic pink lip. In person, its more a dark fuchsia but purple tones, its such a pretty shade in person and it looks so much darker in the bullet. Whereas Girl about town is a true bright fuchsia that I wear in the summer but also looks great with those sparkly outfits. I’m looking forward to wearing Firebird sometime in the week!
So two totally different shades now, both with a cream/ sheer finish. First we have Mac’s I get so OOC which is from Mariah Carey’s new collection. I’ve just reviewed this but after wearing this a couple of times now I just LOVE the shimmer in it. I think this is great to wear throughout the day if your shopping, at the Christmas markets but also for night-time if you want something different from the obvious reds, pinks and purples. Finally we have Michael Kors Dame. As you can see this a really sheer lip that’s a very subtle berry shade. If you want a deep berry shade that isn’t matte, I’d recommend this! It’s another dark shade that looks quite scary in the bullet but it’s so lovely on the lips, this would look perfect if your wear a dark outfit.
So there we have it, my top Christmas lipstick picks! I tried to include a mixture of shades not just reds so I hope you liked a few of these! Let me know what shade you could see yourself wearing.
I jut want to say a Merry Christmas to all my readers and I hope you all have a fantastic day! Then, when its Boxing day treat yourself to one or two new lipsticks in the sale.. you may as well!
