Urban decay Shadow Box

Urban Decay Shadow BoxWhat a treat in a box I have to share today! The Urban Decay Shadow Box is one of the newest palettes from their eyeshadow range. A box filled with a dozen shades with three exclusive never seen before shades!

The packaging alone sold it for me! It’s a cute travel friendly size that fits in most if not all makeup bags! It’s easy to handle and fits perfect in your hand, the large mirror inside makes application even easier too! I particularly love the Urban Decay’s chunky initials as the claspe on the box. The smoky purple colouring makes it look and feel like a luxurious item!

I guess with most if not all Urban Decay’s shadow palettes, I was expecting full size shadows but they really are on the small size. I think for £23 It’s a great palette but UD could have definitely been a bit more generous on the quantity of each shadow..

This is my first UD eyeshadow palette so I cannot comment on the difference to their other shadows but from what I’ve seen/heard these seem a little different to what are in the other palettes. However judging it on my own opinion I think each shade is high pigmented but seem a little dry and not as smooth as other shadows I’ve tried. I was really excited to try the more ‘out there’ colours and I wanted to be a bit more adventurous with my shading. I’m used to boring bronzes or smoky eyes so I feel this shadow box is just what I need to do this. Here are the swatches below:

Urban Decay Shadow BoxSo when trying this palette out, for this look above; I used Sin for my inner corners as a base shadow. Mushroom for my middle and outer eyelid. Then for the dramatic look I went for Indo on my middle and upper eyes and Moonshadow for the crease of the eyelid and outwards. It actually looked really good against my hazel eyes!

As you can see on the swatches, they all look quite matte but are more shimmer-y in person. Baked Cowboy was really hard to show in a photo maybe that was due to my skin color being darker than usual so it didn’t pick up well. My favourite shades have to be Tornado, Indo, FreeLove and Moonshadow.

Do you have the shadow box, what are your thoughts?

Brilliant review, lovely! The palette looks lovely but the fact that you’ve said the shadows don’t seem that smooth is slightly off-putting. I’d maybe have a little nosey at it in store first 🙂 I’ve just recently bought a huge new palette from Sephora with lots of bright colours so I’m not sure if I could justify spending the money on it.. Have to go easy on the money with being a poor student and all, haha! Great post 🙂
