I handed in my last ever university assignment yesterday! I can’t believe I am speaking the words: I’ve finished university! Those three years have been challenging to say the least but I know hand on heart, Its one of the best experiences I’ll treasure throughout my life.
The journey of my Media Studies (Hons) degree at Teesside University has found myself in opportunities I would have never of dreamt of. This little blog of mine started as an assignment in first year and with the love of fashion and beauty, nearly three years later my blog has carried me through so many accomplishments such as two first assignments, my first blogger trip (here) and even winning an award.
I can’t thank my lectures enough for all the support they have given me over the three years.
In 2015, I won Communications / PR of the year at the Teesside Journalism awards all because of Polished Couture. Throughout my time at university, this blog has kept me going as my little safe haven. My slice of the internet where I can be myself and do what I love, my comfort bubble. Polished Couture has given me the chance to work with some amazing brands such as Psyche.
I’m so overwhelmed that my student life has come to an end already, it still hasn’t sunk in yet writing this.
With my love of blogging, in September I decided to do my dissertation on beauty bloggers and the power they have on the beauty industry. I’m proud to say after 6 months of hard work, I received my result two days ago.
‘Critical Investigation into the influence of Beauty Bloggers on the Beauty Industry’ has gained me a first!!
I just had to share the news with you all and thank all my participants in my surveys and interviews. My blog has inspired me with confidence and determination to make the most out of this degree and I hope wherever the land of work takes me.. I hope my blog can still be apart of me.
I just want to take a moment to thank Songbird Bakery for letting me be their PR manager for the last few months, its been a pleasure working with them and building my portfolio at university!
With all my work handed in now and just waiting for two results, in July I hope to graduate with a 1st class honors degree. Teesside University not only chosen me as a graduate success story but I have also been awarded the responsibly of doing the valedictory speech at this years ceremony (think Elle in Legally Blonde). I was so excited and honoured to be asked by all my lectures to do this and I’m not gonna lie – I’m so nervous. I keep thinking its 5 minutes of your life Beth, you can do this.
Even though graduation will be one of the most happiest days of my life, when I look up to the audience during my speech or receiving my degree, there will be a spare seat for someone special who cannot be there to celebrate with me.
It’s a whirlwind of emotions for me right now, I’m in the pursuit of starting a career of my dreams but also I feel sad of all the fun times I’ve shared with my class mates and some I will probably never see again.
I’ve made a life long friend with Eleanor – she has got me through so many stressful times, powering me through any situation thats filled with giggles. Its going to feel wierd waking up on a morning to not worry over word count, deadlines or not walking through university anymore, I certainly won’t miss stressing in the library over assignments though.
My readers have all been so thoughtful with me for the last few months with deadlines and dissertation stress but today this is a reminisce post of my university life and I guess my first step into starting a new life and career for myself.
Fingers crossed for me!
