The UK may have only seen the sun for a couple of days but now its the time of year to get those sunnies out and wear brighter colour lipsticks!
That’s right, ditch the purples and burgundy’s to rose pinks and shimmery corals. Today I’m sharing my must-have lipstick shades with different formulas to suit everyone – whether you want something subtle or daring.
I’ve picked these lipsticks for their pigmentation and how long-lasting they are which is a must for unplanned days out or holidays abroad. I have to say all of these are super creamy, regardless of their formula which includes matte, metallized, gloss and liquid lipsticks. So if you fancy a new lippy or want to see whats missing in your collection, read on!
If you’re heading out for the day, you’ll want a lipstick that will last but will also compliment your outfit. Same goes for night-time but I’ve picked some shades that are more subtle for daytime such as Urban Decay’s Rejected. This petal pink shade has a metallized formula so if you love a speckle of shimmer, this is perfect. If glitter isn’t your thing, I’m still obsessing over Lancome’s Juicy Shaker in the shade Lemon Explosion. As you can see in the swatch below this acts as a lip oil with a slight hint of colour. I love using this on top of lipsticks for a gloss effect.
If you love a red lip, Charlotte Tilbury’s Lost Cherry is beautiful for days when you want to wear red, but want something slightly cooler. It’s definitely more a pastel shade with tones of fuchsia. If you prefer more of an orange tone or coral shade I’m loving Joan Collins Suzy Starr. I personally wouldn’t wear this shade for a night out but its gorgeous if you’re wearing something floral to match.
So the must-have shade for summer for me, has to be a bright pink otherwise known as fuchsia. I’ve picked four different shades in this post depending on what you’d prefer. If you like liquid lipsticks that have a metallized formula, I’d say try Lipstick Queen in the shade Cheers. It’s a slight plum colour so is wearable all year round but I can see this working for a night out lip. Then you have YSL Volupe Shine in the shade 5 that has a hydrating formula, creating a glossy effect. The sun can dry out your lips, so this is great lipstick for keeping them vibrant and nourished.
If you are more of a matte kinda gal, I’d recommend trying Mac Girl About Town or Urban Decay’s Checkmate. As you can see in the last two swatches below, they are very similar but the Urban decay has more of a softer tone if you prefer that. These both will stay put for hours even when eating and drinking – which is what summer is all about right?
I hope you agree there’s some gorgeous shades here in my must-have summer lipsticks! I’ve tried to feature a range of brands depending on your budget – because a girl can never have too many lipsticks, right? Have you tried any of these? What is your favourite summer lipstick?
