Summer Lipstick Shades

Even though the weather doesn’t seem like Summer, it’s certainly heading our way! So if you need a new lipstick to flatter your brights and florals, here are my go-to shades that will suit everyone. 

It feels like forever since I last did a lipstick post. My last one was my winter picks so I think this time of year its best to fall in love with the shades we have already collected or treat ourselves to a couple more.

I’m quite diverse when it comes to shades, I love a good fuchsia pink but I’m also currently loving a pinky nude lately. For me, its all about the formula so I’ve picked a selection of textures from matte to high gloss and creams to suit everyone.Lets start with shades:

Bright Pink:

MAC Girl about Town is an electric deep fuchsia pink with purple and blue tones, this is the perfect lip for a night I’m but of course if your daring it looks beautiful through the day to add colour to your outfit.

If you’re wanting a more red toned lipstick then I’d recommend YSL Volupe Shine 5. It appears more red on the lips but the added shine gives it the deep fuchsia you desire.

Pink / Nude:

NYX lip cream in Stockholm is exactly like velvet teddy for me, I’ve mentioned this beauty so much lately but if you’re wanting a subtle nude for through the day, you need to try this.

If you’re wanting a more pink toned nude I recommend Primark‘s brand PS lipstick crayon in nude. Very similar to Stockholm and velvet teddy (Pairing them up looks good) but this has a soft pink to it and for £2 its one of the best lipsticks I use for through the day.

Charlotte Tilbury Sexy Sienna is again another pink toned nude but this had a more peachy sheen to it. I’ve been using this for through the day and night – it goes perfect with a tan or bronzed look, like the lady herself describes.

Soft Pinks:

MAC Flamingo is a mix of soft pink and light orange tones. With the perfect name, this is another one that looks great through the day for a pop of colour but looks great paired up with a nude liner.

If you want a very basic or top coat lipstick, I recommend Dior‘s Pink Empress. Just like its name again, this very light pink is covered in silver shimmer that makes it quite transparent on the lips so it can be used subtly on its own or paired up with your fave shade.

Orange:

If your daring, then Illamasqua‘s Soaked is the most stunning orange shade you’ll see on your lips! With red tones, it creates a stunning lip that will look beautiful with any floral piece. Just look at the swatch!

Now, lets talk about formulas and textures. If you’re wanting a matte finish with longwearing I recommend NYX, Primark and Charlotte Tilbury. For something in between that isn’t so shiny but doesn’t dry the lips, then I’d opt for Girl about town or flamingo. A lipstick with a sheer shine then YSL is your best bet but Illamasqua has the formula that sets well but doesn’t feel too glossy. And if you’re wanting a quick lip as a touch up then Dior is the one for you.

Of course, summer shades can also cover to reds still but if your feeling more adventurous then I think a lilac purple also looks good depending on the outfit. Thinking of holiday already, I feel out of these I’d be taking Illamasqua to be daring but then keep it simple with Sexy Sienna… And maybe a few more, its so hard to choose?!

As you can see by the swatch, the middle section is the nude mattes that are becoming more popular by the minute thanks to NYX’s lip creams! But I cant help but draw my eyes to Soaked and Volupte Shine, such stunning pigments.

I’ve already been using a couple of these shades see and though its Spring but I’m looking forward to summer and be more adventurous and pick up a couple new shades. If you have any recommendations please let me know!
